Blackford Hill, Sat 16 August 2008
A fine day (for a change!) saw a good turnout at our local event on Blackford Hill. Mark Wood planned the courses, making good use of the terrain. Hope everyone enjoyed it and that we’ll see you again soon.

Planner’s comments:
Thanks to everyone who came along to Blackford Hill to either compete or help out. The rain thankfully stayed away and it remained dry for most of the day.
This was my first time planning courses for a very long time. My only other time was at Colinton Dell, Edinburgh, one Wednesday night in 1985! The gap to the next event isn’t going to be quite as long unfortunately.
I was happy with the courses for White, Yellow and Orange, and the winning times were good and roughly what I expected. The Green course was causing me more of a problem. Each weekend I visited the Hill the water got deeper, the mud more slippery and the undergrowth continued to grow. I had to keep moving the controls to more accessible locations. In the end it was a physically tough course but with only 3 or 4 technically difficult controls. However I do believe that most people who come along on a Saturday afternoon to do an informal Green course are doing it for training, physical as well as navigation, and with the season about to kick off again in Scotland they are hopefully feeling the better for it today.
Anyway I hope (in the end) you enjoyed the challenge of your course and I look forward to seeing you at the next local event.
Finally, big thanks particularly to Crawford Lindsay (and Rona and Andrew) for checking my courses. And to Brian Miller for helping to put out the controls.
