Planner’s Comments
Planning the Long O proved to be another hugely enjoyable orienteering experience.
Early glances at the original map indicated very good potential for courses in an area seldom visited by orienteers.
As planning developed, I discovered the area had been used for a Mountain Marathon in 1994 and also one in the late seventies.
A great assembly area was found, and the task of formalising courses from the many useable control sites began, taking cognisance of the map scale and terrain.
Some map updates near to some controls were added.
All courses offered variety and challenge, although in retrospect I feel the Long could have been slightly shorter.
Colin was very professional in his controlling, giving guidance, advice and reassurance throughout the process.
Thanks to Colin for controlling and collecting controls.
My thanks to Ian Jackson, Heather Thomson and Tyler Morrison for control collecting also.
Ewart Scott.
